FatCat Publishing Partnership

Today is a good day.   Hopefully the first of many in the world of Snow Panda this year.

I’m very pleased to announce Snow Panda’s partnership with FatCat Publishing and the addition of many Snow Panda works to their diverse and growing catalogue!

Take a look, have a listen.

ABOUT FatCat Publishing:

FatCat Publishing is a branch of FatCat Records, based in Brighton, England.

The publishing arm was formed on the same crucial ethos as its label counterpart: to represent and develop new and emerging artists alongside its already-established catalogue.

Where FatCat Records - the label - is best known for its work with Sigur Rós, Frightened Rabbit, Animal Collective, Max Richter, Vashti Bunyan etc., it is through these successes that each new generation of artists can begin to surface. More recently, Breton, We Were Promised Jetpacks and PAWS are among the names able to build on the foundations laid by those larger profiles.

FatCat Publishing has the same mission. FatCat artists have been featured in major films (Shutter Island, Prometheus), TV adverts for IKEA and Samsung, and prime time TV shows including The Blue Planet, Made in Chelsea, Grey’s Anatomy and CSI, alongside countless further uses.

Urban Soundscapes 3

This is the third of a few urban soundscape entries I am submitting for the 2014 Sapporo International Arts Festival in Japan this year.

'People City” is highly inspired by the foley work in Hayao Miyazaki's latest film “The Wind Rises”.  In the movie, the sounds of the aircraft and natural disasters are made entirely by people.  All the sounds in this soundscape are made entirely from my voice….the ambience, cars, construiton, radios, birds, footsteps etc.

The winning submission will be played in the Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway during the festival as well as other sites in the city including the Sapporo Art Museum.

12 Virginia Bands You Should Listen to Now

Very excited to be included on list of 12 VA bands that you shouldn’t miss for Paste Magazine this week!

The list was put together by Reggie Pace (Bon Iver, No B.S. Brass, etc.) and I’m very humbled that Snow Panda is included with some serious Virginia musicians.

A new album is in the works and the track in the article is a demo of sorts….. of things to come.   #phasethenextone

See ya soon!

In the summer of 2011, in the early days of Spacebomb Records, I received an e-mail asking if I would want to shoot a video for one of the songs Matt had recorded for his new album.  I hadn’t really heard much of the record at that point and was excited about the prospect of being one of the first people to get to check it out.

I think at the time the idea was to have a bunch of Richmond folks shoot a video for each of the songs on the record.  After hearing some rough mixes…..Will You Love Me spoke to me and I got really excited about shooting a video from scratch. After working on some amazing story ideas by Katie Chang and some brief planning ….I set out for about a week in October 2011 to shoot the video.

When listening to those rough mixes of Big Inner early on, I knew it was special and I definitely wasn’t alone in that thinking!  In the wake of the of the initial release of the album, the video was inadvertently put to the wayside as things were moving quickly due to the immense success of the record.

I always wanted to release it when the time felt right.

So…here it is now for you to check out!

Enjoy!

The video was shot entirely on a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS point and shoot camera on a 12 inch tripod over the course of a week in October 2011 in Richmond, VA.

Special thanks to the Spacebomb Records family and to anyone who had any part in asking me to work on this project, for letting me set up shop in the space, and for playing along in the filming.
