Final installment of the Poliça synth covers.

The Maker.

I almost…almost forgot how much I love making music with a Telecaster and a Champ 15…..throw in a little looper…..feels right.

Poliça Synth Covers Part II

This is Amongster from the album “Give You the Ghost”.

A couple years ago I thought I’d try my hand at reproducing the synth parts to a few Poliça songs.  These were originally for my own documentation, but…they turned out pretty good, so here you go!

You’ll hear the original track fade in and out….that’s so you can hear the actual parts I’m playing.

Poliça is an American Synthpop and alternative rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota founded in 2011 by Ryan Olson and Channy Leaneagh. Live the group consists of Chris Bierden, Drew Christopherson, Ben Ivascu and Channy Leaneagh

Check out Poliça at: http://www.thisispolica.com/

This is a little late….but I’m very very pleased to have been part of this amazing project by Joe Westerlund.  I had the pleasure to work in the original Spacebomb studio in the initial phases of the recording, running the board and tape, setting up microphones and the like while this soundscape took shape before all of our ears.  Ragtag drumlines, floor percussion, hand clap ensembles and euphonium exploration.

Visit Spacebomb to pick up your copy!  I highly recommend the vinyl LP…..this music doesn’t live in tracks….it’s all one story…best when only interrupted by one intermission.

Grandma Sparrow
& His Piddletractor Orchestra

Oh hello, hello to reach and one of all my children!
My title is Gr-r-r-andma for all these whoʼs wonder in slumber and still grin!
Follow me to the plunderfull town of Piddletractor, where we will search for my naughty little nephew, Alewishus, the clown prince of Piddletractor!

Thus begins the mythic non-saga of Grandma Sparrow, his nephew, and the various denizens of Piddletractor, USA. Joe Westerlund puts his performance alter-ego through the trademark Spacebomb wringer: strings, horns, and groovy houseband to produce a wild new thing, a psychedelic children’s song-cycle for adults that doesn’t defy description so much as dance around it and pull at its nose. It’s the kind of project that is rarely dreamed up these days, rarer still to be executed with such skill, bravado and glee (complete with an amateur youth choir). A bold production from Spacebomb Records, ever dedicated to the redefinition of what a record can be in the 21st century.

“Album of the month times ten!” — Stephen Daultrey, Bizarre Mag UK

“It’s got the strange, multi-layered harmonies of the Beatles circa Magical Mystery Tour, the symphonic sweep of Van Dyke Parks, the oddball instrumentation of Brian Wilson at his most wigged-out.” — Wondering Sound

“Gloriously freaky…super-fun…This playdate is some trippy, deep shit.” — Village Voice

“An amalgam of audio collage, improvisation, atonal sounds and enchanting melodies” — Relix

“After a very long wait, the second album on Matthew E White’s Spacebomb label has turned up… and it may not be quite what most of you would have envisaged…” — UNCUT

FatCat Publishing Partnership

Today is a good day.   Hopefully the first of many in the world of Snow Panda this year.

I’m very pleased to announce Snow Panda’s partnership with FatCat Publishing and the addition of many Snow Panda works to their diverse and growing catalogue!

The Snow Panda page is here: FatCat Publishing Artsist - Snow Panda

Take a look, have a listen.

ABOUT FatCat Publishing:

FatCat Publishing is a branch of FatCat Records, based in Brighton, England.

The publishing arm was formed on the same crucial ethos as its label counterpart: to represent and develop new and emerging artists alongside its already-established catalogue.

Where FatCat Records - the label - is best known for its work with Sigur Rós, Frightened Rabbit, Animal Collective, Max Richter, Vashti Bunyan etc., it is through these successes that each new generation of artists can begin to surface. More recently, Breton, We Were Promised Jetpacks and PAWS are among the names able to build on the foundations laid by those larger profiles.

FatCat Publishing has the same mission. FatCat artists have been featured in major films (Shutter Island, Prometheus), TV adverts for IKEA and Samsung, and prime time TV shows including The Blue Planet, Made in Chelsea, Grey’s Anatomy and CSI, alongside countless further uses.

Urban Soundscapes 3

This is the third of a few urban soundscape entries I am submitting for the 2014 Sapporo International Arts Festival in Japan this year.

'People City” is highly inspired by the foley work in Hayao Miyazaki's latest film “The Wind Rises”.  In the movie, the sounds of the aircraft and natural disasters are made entirely by people.  All the sounds in this soundscape are made entirely from my voice….the ambience, cars, construiton, radios, birds, footsteps etc.

The winning submission will be played in the Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway during the festival as well as other sites in the city including the Sapporo Art Museum.
